On May 29, 2026, I attended the third edition of Wizards Event in Lyon—one of the largest gatherings of SEO professionals in the French-speaking community.

The event brought together leading practitioners to discuss search marketing, artificial intelligence, technical SEO and digital growth. One message ran through the entire day: the search industry is evolving faster than ever.

SEO is no longer one isolated channel. It now sits at the intersection of search, AI, automation, content, data and user experience.

Black Hat SEO is still alive—and evolving

One of the most interesting discussions focused on the current state of Black Hat SEO. Although many people assume these tactics have disappeared, they continue to evolve and often adapt quickly to changes in search engines.

Google and other platforms must therefore keep improving their systems to detect manipulation and protect the relevance of their results. Black Hat SEO is not a sustainable strategy for businesses seeking long-term visibility, but it continues to expose weaknesses and indirectly push search technology forward.

AI is becoming the SEO co-pilot

AI tools such as Claude Code are moving beyond simple content generation. They are becoming operational partners that help SEO teams analyse, build, automate and execute faster.

The professionals who learn to use these systems effectively gain a meaningful advantage in efficiency, scalability and execution speed. The key is not replacing judgment—it is using AI to expand what skilled teams can accomplish.

For years, SEO performance was mainly measured through rankings, organic traffic and backlinks. That model is becoming too narrow.

People increasingly use ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity to find answers, discover brands and make decisions. Generative Engine Optimization reflects this shift: content must now be understandable, trustworthy and quotable across both search engines and AI answer platforms.

Traditional SEO

Rankings, links, organic sessions and visibility inside conventional search results.

Modern search visibility

Google, AI Overviews, answer engines, brand mentions, citations and assisted discovery.

The skills defining tomorrow’s SEO leaders

The future belongs to professionals who can connect multiple disciplines instead of treating SEO as a collection of isolated tactics.

  • Combine search expertise with practical artificial-intelligence capabilities.
  • Use automation and data analysis to improve speed without sacrificing quality.
  • Connect content strategy and user experience to real audience needs.
  • Translate technical opportunities into measurable business outcomes.

The ability to connect technology, data, content and commercial priorities will be one of the most valuable capabilities in the industry.

Adaptation is no longer optional

AI is not a future trend. It is already changing how people search, how content is produced and how businesses compete for attention.

The real question is no longer whether AI will change SEO, but how quickly teams can adapt. The gap between professionals who experiment with these changes and those who resist them is widening every month.

The future of SEO belongs to those who can combine search expertise, AI capabilities, automation and strategic thinking into one growth engine.

Wizards Event 2026 was a timely reminder that continuous learning, experimentation and adaptation are now essential for anyone who wants to remain competitive in search.
